Pattern Roundup: Knit Pants Patterns

In “Chic Knit Pants” (Threads #219, Fall 2022), Christine Jonson teaches the home sewer to embrace the polished ease of knit pants with the right fabric, fit, and details.

The CJ Patterns Perfect Pants Pattern is featured, along with the CJ Patterns Straight Leg Pants 621. She also offers an extended-size version, Plus CJP Straight Leg Pant 621+.  If neither of those work for you, Cristine Jonson also makes the CJ Patterns Plus Split Hem Pants Pattern, which is an option for extended sizing.

Jalie Sylvie Knit Wide-Leg Pants and Shorts

High-waist, wide-leg pants with a wide waistband have a secret pocket. The pants are fitted at the waist and hips, straight from the hips down. These palazzo pants are as easy as leggings to sew and are available in 28 children’s to adults’ sizes. The pattern includes full-length and shorts-length versions, plus information on cropping them. Style Arc Cruising Kate Knit Pants Patterns

These casual pants are comfortable and relaxed with an elastic waist and three-quarter-length legs. The pattern comes in sizes 4 through 30, waist 23.5 inches to 50.5 inches, hips 32.6 inches to 61 inches. Although these are designed for knits, some stretch wovens may work, too.


Our Lady of Leisure Highball Pants

This pattern is a high-waisted cigarette pant, with side vents and a slender silhouette. It calls for the use of a serger and is ideal for people who are beginners at sewing knits. Women’s sizes A to G (waist 24 inches to 35.5 inches, hips 35.5 inches to 47 inches).


Sew Liberated Arenite Pants

These slouchy knit (or woven) pants have deep pockets and two leg finishing options. Look for drapey knits. The Sew Liberated website offers instructions for a slimmer version of this design as well. The pattern comes in sizes 0 to 34 (waist 25 inches to 52.5 inches, hip 33.5 inches to 61 inches).


Tilly and the Buttons Marigold Pants

Confident beginners will love these pants, with their loose fit at the hips, elasticized waistband, gentle shaping with pleats and darts, tapered ankles, and slash pockets. For the most comfortable version, choose a stable knit fabric. You can also make these in drapey wovens. The pattern includes a jumpsuit version with a sweetheart neckline. Women’s sizes 2 to 16 (waist 24 inches to 38 inches, hip 33 inches to 47 inches).
