Empire-line dress, made from 2 layers of black and red silk charmeuse, has a portrait collar and a 3-tiered skirt. Both the under and upper skirts and the under and upper collars are edged with machine-embroidered cutwork. The black upper skirt is further embellished with machine-embroidered Australian flowers. The machine-embroidery designs are comprised of smaller motifs that have been assembled and edited with software. 91 hoops of embroidery were required to complete the dress. The embroidery was stabilized with silk organza to ensure that the embroidered fabric retained its soft and fluid hand. The inspiration for this dress came from traditional Hungarian floral embroidery combined with Australian imagery.
