Medieval angel tunic and accessories.

12th/13th century angel sleeve dress and accessories.

Hi,

This is my first post on Threads forum. I have been a Threads fan for a long time.

Apart from that, I like to particpate in costume events and this is one of my projects for the year. I orignally bought white and red linen to make the dress from. But I wanted blue and red fabric.  So I found a product called Idye that lets you use your washing machine to dye fabric.  The two fabric dye sachets was enough to dye my 10m of white linen royal blue.  Nice contrast between the red and blue fabric isn’t it?  One of the trimming tips I can offer is to cut up old saries and use the boarders to decorate your medieval costumes. It gives a much needed sparkle and quite a stage presence to your costume. Also when you make the turret hat draft the crown to an oval shape. The hat will fit much better on your head.  With the stomacher, make it in muslin a size smaller to try for a better fit.  Cheers, happy medieval fayer!

    Hello Rosie,
I love Vintage and costume too You are the first writer that has an interest with Millinery too.
My daughter is a dancer so I get to make her costumes. I am a Dental Tech by trade and work in my home. Candice is the 'Fife' character and dances Scottish Highland Choreography. It is a hoppie kind of dance and children love to participate, good exercise. We have been working on this children show for the past 2 years. I have made the costumes for most of the other characters along face prosthesis and teeth. One of the characters is a enchanted Wolf/Man that teaches children about animals care. We haven't done any filming yet there is still so much to do with sets and props. We are making all this ourselves. In the hope we will be able to get picked up by a production company.
Any way i love making hats and am just starting. My husband bought me some great Millinery books. Now I am looking for the outlets to supply things.
Hope you put more of your things up on Threads. i love to see what other seamstresses are designing.

I think you have more choice as far as millinery suppliers go. Australia has only a few suppliers and not as much choice and you may have.

I am going to a millinery workshop for a whole week in the new year. It will be exciting to learn some new techniques in felt and sinamay. I have a hat block and mold so it will be interesting to work with them for the first time.

I like to make hats for my costumes because that gives the finishing touch. Whether it's medieval, renaissance, victorian or 1940's. The costume will need a hat to make it look authentic.

Currently I am making bobbin lace in an elizabethan style braid edging. It takes a long time to make and I have 1 1/2 mtrs more to do. It will go on a elizabethan smock that has black work cuffs and collar.

As far as a millinery supplier for you have a look at http://www.hatsupply.com or search for JudithM Millinery Supplies. I don't usually buy overseas if I can help it but I know hat supply is a good store to start with.

Keep watch on my blog for anything new:
