Drew Schau as King Henry VIII

I am thrilled to be blessed with our first grandchild. When I asked my daughter (who is a history teacher) what she would like me to make, she told me something historical. She then suggested King Henry VIII! I started off with a thermal style onesie to which I added some ribbons and trims which were sewn together to form a breastpiece. I also added pleated gold trim around the neck and arms. The vest was a bit more challenging. I made the pattern from a ready-made vest. I used a brocade and lined it with fleece. I put in a casing and drawstring, which helped keep the vest on and also created the appearance of a peplum. The sleeves were made by using ribbon which I bound and enhanced with jewels. The vest is trimmed with fake fur. The “necklace” is made of drapery trim and I sewed jewels to the openings. The beret-style hat is made of fleece and trimmed with more jewels and feathers. I used clear elastic as a neck strap. Since my grandchild resides in Seattle and I live in Cincinnati, sizing was the most challenging factor. You can imagine my delight in seeing the photos of King Henry VIII.
