Who can resist their not quite 3 year old's request to be characters from his favorite movie?
I had to make everything by hand. My materials were fleece, felt, craft foam (masks, wings, tails, and and tattoo like marking appliques on character’s chests), two boas (black for big z hair, yellow for chicken joe tail), a few bags of feathers, some pipe insulation (tail and ‘gut’), panne velvet, cardboard (for the surf boards) and a huge amount of trial and error! I had no patterns, I just kept looking at the images from the movie on line for guidance.

Big Z catching a wave
I cut out the masks from craft foam and made the hat out fleece and felt. I did buy the coconut bra and the skirt is made from two window fringes (cheaper and shorter than buying a grass skirt). The inside hem has a 5.5 foot piece of pipe insulation to give me the requisite 'gut'.
I attached the tail (also a piece of pipe insulation covered in fleece with a boa strategically cut and sewn on) with a piece of fishing wire and a hook to my mid back.
