My project began when I fell in love with a raw silk from Jab. This is the yellow woven jacket material of my two piece jump suit. I had in my closet, an old jump suit that I loved, so I pulled it apart and cut a muslin. On closer inspectin of the raw silk it had woven in the fibers a wonderful muddy lavender thread. I found a silk doupioni that was perfect, and wanting to add some flare to the empire bodice I found a cotton all over print of the same color and underlined it with a bright yellow. Once the muddy lavender lace was applied over the bright yellow it was perfect with the jab silk. It was amazing to see how the laced changed this too bright cotton yellow to a mellow yellow. The entire suit and jacket were underlined with silk organza and lined with silk charmeuse. I added small piping along the neckline, arms and pocket openings using the lavender silk. This also kept the pockets from stretching as well as giving the jumpsuit a more tailored look around the neck and arms. The zipper was inserted using the pic stitch. The jacket collar was also finished with the lace treatment and I used the same lavender piping around the jacket outside edges. This is an extremely comfortable outfit and warm. My belt was beautifully made by Pat’s Custom Buttons and Belts in Lodi CA.
