Lavender soft vinyl raincoat, with white piping accents, grommet embellisment, and hand-painted lining
The “Larger Than Life” Raincoat (Simplicity pattern #2645, lengthened), so named for the large buttons, large grommet trim, and large floral print of the lining, is made of soft lavender vinyl. White vinyl was used for contrasting piping, covered buttons, and large corded bound buttonholes. Large grommets, which were hand-painted white, provide embellishment to the lined patch pockets. Because the vinyl can only be pressed at a very low heat, not allowing for a fusible interfacing, the entire coat was interfaced with cotton flannel. All stitching had to be accurate the first time, as needle or pin holes remain visible. The white silk charmeuse lining was hand-painted using Elmer’s Washable Gel glue as a resist. The floral designs were lightly drawn on the silk, then glue was applied to the drawn lines. After the glue dried, the fabric was painted. The paint was heat-set, then the fabric was washed to remove the glue leaving the white outlines behind. The silk chiffon skirt features a hand-picked zipper, and full length flounces that grace the front and back princess seams. The skirt is lined with rayon bemberg.
I admired your work on your silk lining. Beautiful piece. I just think it did not go with the skirt in your photo, 2 different cool and warm color tones and floral patterns would make them ... too busy. My opinion :) Overal it's ok.
I LOVE this! I hope to make something half this professional-looking someday! LOVE the lining and grommets.
