Re-use Dress and Bolero

Dress front- The draped front bodice is cut all in one peice.

This is my final entry to the Discarded to Divine Charity Auction : The outfit consistence of a Faux 17th century bolero (complete with cartridge pleated sleeves) over an empire wasted dress with a charmeuse cowl bodice. Both garments are  wool and lined in silk. Both garment are  60% recycled from other clothing. Specifically two wool suit jacket, a velvet skirt and a silk promdress. The remaining 40% was fabric purchased to avoid excessive peicing, and a fresh lining.

The Dress was mostly draped (especially the bodice) and the Boldero was mostly flat pattern drafted based on the Apparel Arts method. There was a lot of hand sewing involved- somthing I greatly enjoy. I used an invisable side zipper, and the cuffs are original to one of the suit jackets.

Preview night at the De Young is April 15th 2011 (For people who want to see the clothes, but not bid) The Actual event, auction and fashion show is April 28, 2011. http://www.svdp-sf.org/DISCARDED/
All Proceeds from the auctions go towards clothing and feeding the homeless/transient population of San Francisco CA.

How it works: Designers go to the Society head quarters and pick out donated garments they want to up/recycle into new clothing. Completed garments are then turned in to the juries, with most ending up in the silent auction, and a select few in a live runway show. Designers are allowed to use up to 50% new fabric to supplement the garments they pick out (although, when I was there they also had fabric that had been donated you could pick)

I Really hope my outfit makes it into the fashion show. As some one who mainly focuses on historical costume-design, it may be the only time I see a non-costume piece go down a runway like this.

I really like this...I expect it will make the show! It's two great wearable pieces and has a lot of style. Great work!

I hope this out-fit makes it to the runway. It's just lovely. I'm in the east bay area...I've not heard of this charity auction before. It sounds so great, I'm going to try to attend to preview. Good luck to you....your piece deserves the spotlight!

Thank you both, I am glad you like my pieces, also thanks for the vote on confidence on the runway show :)

D&D has been around for the past 10 years I think? It is run by the Saint Vincent de Paul society and for a while they were partnered with Macy's for a similar (men's?) event. They have really expanded this year. I am really excited for the preview night, I have only seen the entries of some friends.
