"I am Sixteen Going on Seventeen"... This dress has billowy sleeves, a ruched bodice, and the most beautiful twirling skirt!
Sound of Music fans rejoice! Remember the gorgeous chiffon dress Liesl wore for her “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” dance scene in the gazebo? Well now you can make one just like it! With the billowy sleeves, twirling skirt, and adorable ruched bodice, it’s an absolutely ethereal dress to wear!
I used a delicate peach chiffon, with China Silk lining. The sheer yoke is rounded in back, and is a rounded square neck in front. The French seam method is used for most of the inside seams, and it closes with an zipper down the back.
If you are looking for a Sound of Music costume idea for a stage production or sing-along, you’ve found it! The Liesl dress would also make a charming vintage prom or party dress! It is such a flattering style with the fitted bodice and 1930s flair!
This is by far my favorite dress I’ve ever worn (and I’ve worn a lot in my lifetime!)
