Dress for a nothing day, or ode to MTM

When I first found this vintage 70s pattern, I knew I had to sew it up. And apparently when I first saw this fabric, I knew I’d use it…years later. But in my quest for stash-busting (re: consuming less fabric by using up what I have, and setting myself up for a future of more thoughtful textile purchases), I only _thought_ these two would be an okay pair. I was afraid the print was too girly, but I like how the keyhole gives the pretty flowers a bit of an edge. There was a lot of tweaking to be done on this one-size pattern, blogged here, but I marked up the tissue because I’d love to turn this into a little black dress, something my wardrobe is missing. I took my time interlining the cotton with China silk, so I won’t need a slip, and also added in what I think is a crucial step of understitching the facings. Most of this was sewn on my new vintage straight stitch machine, until she started acting up 😉 Off to watch some Mary Tyler Moore…
