Halloween Costume Contest

Mary Poppins

This halloween I decided to be “practically perfect in every way” and dress as Mary Poppins! Inspired by both the classic film and the Broadway Production, I made a coat using Simplicity 2581. The coat was made of a cherry red bottom-weight purchased from Joann Fabrics and embellished with black braid trim and large black buttons. The Victorian high neck blouse started as Simplicity 2339 and was trimmed with delicate vintage lace. The top button was replaced with a red silk bowtie on a stick pin. I self drafted a navy wool gored skirt. The outfit was completed with a boater crafted from supplies from the floral department of Pat Catans and the parrot umbrella topper was sculpted from Sculpy clay and painted in bright, contracting tones.

This costume was not only popular with trick-or-treaters and adult revelers alike, but also kept me toasty warm during a cold Ohio October!
