Quilted Jacket

Reversable Spring Jacket made of cotton using no batting to keep it cool.

This is a Jacket I created for Spring to bring on a tour to Italy. I made it reversable without batting so it is light and cool and complimented several outfits. I started with a great jacket pattern with simple lines, and started creating my fabric built on my favorite quilt block, the log cabin. To add tecture I used folded fabric techniques to form flowers to form the harth (center) of the block, then added three small pearl beads to the center of the flowers. I placed the blocks on the pattern, and planned the other fabrics the fill around the blocks. For the sleeves I turned the blocks on point to create a point of interest, and for the pockets I turned the block on point. I stitched three sides leaving one side open to form the opening of the pocket. For a touch of whimsey I embellished the jacket with embroidered dragonflies. Two complete jackets (instesd of lining) were made then placed wrong sides together, and bound on all edges. This is my favorite Jacket of all.

I think your jacket is just great. The dragonflies give it a really special touch, too.
Now, did you also make that fabulous dress?

The dress was from a McCall's pattern #M5656 view A with the pockets added. I made it a longer length (above the ankle), and embroidered dragonflies on the buttons in gold and white metallic thread. Then I lines the jumper for comfort. The fabric is a linen-like cotton blend.
