I made this fleece swing coat as a sample for a class I was teaching. Its a darling fall/winter style coat, that is unlined and has 3/4 length sleeves. The pattern called for blanket trim, but I am pleased I used the leopard print fleece instead, which gave it great flare.
The coat features set in sleeves which were a breeze to put in. Since I was teach new sewers, the foregiving nature of fleece made teaching the basic techinques for inserting sleeves rather easy.
Since when working with fleece, bulky seams are an issue I used mock, flat-felled seams which gave the inside of the coat a nice, rather tidy finish.
The most difficult part of the coat was attaching the leopard trim. Since both interior and exterior portions of the trim would be exposed, the inside attachment needed to look as good as the outside. I didn’t want any machine stitching to interfere with the busy print so I hand stitched the inside portion of the trim. Not hard to do of course, just a bit more time consuming.
I just this morning saw your coat on the Craftsy site, and just loved the look of it. I was lucky enough to find a piece of the leopard print fleece in the remnant bin today that I'm going to use with some black fleece for my Mimi Hat, and perhaps a cuff on my fingerless gloves (both posted here in the Readers Closet)...so you see, your lovely work has inspired me. Thanks for sharing!
Fun, fun, Fun. So glad I could inspire you. There is so much you can do with that leopard print fleece, From my scraps I made two outerwear scarves and a winter headband. Thanks for the comments.
