This great coat was made from fabrics in my SABLE – Stash Accumulation Beyond Life Expectancy ! The felted string woolen is from Gorgeous Fabrics and the hot pink satin lining was left over from far too many princess dresses. The pattern, a vintage Simplicity from the early 80’s ($2.50 !) was modified with the addition of darts front and back and on seam pockets. The pattern was chosen for the simplicity of its lines that would not complicate the “busyness” of the fabric. The collar can be worn up or down according the the weather or my mood. The string fabric is thick, but not heavy and it presented problems with the button holes. After trying several different options unsuccessfully, I ended up applying Ultrasuede patches and cutting away the face fabric behind the patch. This eliminated one thick layer and added interest to the look of the jacket. The buttons were tied on with black and white striped spaghetti trim which mimicked one of the strings on the fabric. The same black and white fabric was used for piping when the lining was attached. Although I’m not quite ready for cold weather, I can’t wait to wear my new coat !

This is MAGNIFICENT!! I love the creative way you got around the challenges your FABULOUS fabric presented. You are already a WINNER!!
This is great! I love it!
Love the buttons, love the print, love the wool.. it's all terrific!
This is an awesome piece and it looks great on you. Did you have the pattern from the 80's or was it a more recent purchase?
Good luck w/ the competition!
Ree
Thanks, Ree65. Yes, I have had the pattern since it first came out. I knew it was an old pattern, but didn't realize how old. The $2.50 price shouted "OLD", but I found the 1980 date in tiny print on one end.
This is an awesome piece that is very sassy. I would love to get this for my mother. Simply marvelous!!!
