Wool coat
A friend, having admired my own coat made from Vogue 8431, asked me to make her one. The fabric is a dark chocolate virgin wool that had a distinct nap and had to be handled as velvet. It raveled easily, and despite the coat being lined, I finished all of the hidden seams. The radiating back dart construction was called for in the lining as well as the coat itself. I used silk charmeuse for the lining. I thread traced all of the darts with silk thread, hand sewed them, and then machine sewed them. Where the lining met the coat facing that wily charmeuse did not want to lay flat! I invisibly hand sewed 1/4-inch gimp braid to the entire seam line. The large decorative button, moved further up at my friend’s request, closes with a covered snap. The lantern sleeves give this coat a Vintage flavor, and although they appear rather long in the picture, they fit perfectly on my friend.
