Fancy Fabrics Challenge 2013

ivory beaded and ruched wedding gown with button up train

This beautiful gown was made by me for my very special daughter in law.  It was very meaningful to  make it her perfect gown on  her most important day.

This is a gown designed by my daughter in law and myself, an ivory mermaid style gown, made from flat back satin, tulle, scalloped edge lace and lining.  I started by making a corsett style interior/lining with boning  to give her a firming form and stability.  The upper part of the dress is satin, with ruched tulle overlay, and a hand sewn beaded lace applique in the center of the front and also down the center of the back.  the bottom of the dress is flat backed satin with scallopped lace overlay, cut so the scallopped edge is at the bottom of the train.  the entire bottom and train was also embellished with beads and crystals.  I embroidered along the design of the lace.

the train had 3 hooks that brought the train up to floor length, still giving it the mermaid look.

the ruching by hand was a real challenge and quite time consuming, but a lot of fun to get to the end result.

the cap sleeves are tulle, trimmed in antique fine lace trim, and dotted with beads and crystals.

(i also made her veil, also from the same tulle, and trimmed in the antique lace)
