I created an assymetrical vest and a boater hat for the Fall season. I used methods found in Claire Schaffer’s Couture Techniques book and fell head over heels in love with the results! I used the fitting of the bodice section and adapted it for men, balanced the darts that I placed in the back of the vest, I extended the shoulders to reduce the ugly gap you achieve in the underarms as instructed in the book, buttonhole stitched all of my hooks and eyes, and fell stitched all of my inner seams to the organza lining. This jacket has 3 layers: The Shell: Satin. The Interlining: Bermberg Rayon (waterproofing the vest) The Lining: Silk Organza. I had clean and crisp tailoring blended with couture touches in mind while designing. The collar is drapable and can take on many different shapes. The hat is made out of cotton, and buckram. It was 100% handmade and handstitched. Overall I wanted to show a clean, and tailored approach to streetwear and appeal to men’s fashion.
