Halloween Costume Contest 2014

The Mighty Hercules

My son Patrick had his mind set on being Hercules for Halloween this year. Yes, my son is wearing a dress because well, let’s face it, Hercules wears a dress. I started with the bodice using Ollie & Annie’s Isabella bodice and mashed it with Violet Field Threads Whitney pleated skirt. I drafted the cape part myself. It is attached at the shoulder seams with buttons so if Hercules decides to go cape-less he can. I was over-the-moon that everything went together so well!  I don’t normally mash up patterns so this was out of my comfort zone for sure.  The detail on the front was gold ribbon which was machine stitched.  The mediallon circle was added to the “belt”.  I used a free cozy pattern from CKC for the wrist cuffs and the headband was self drafted.  The accessories were bought at Target. I have a full write up at http://patternrevolution.com/blog/2014/10/6/queen-elsa-and-hercules?q=hercules

All of the patterns used can be found online in .pdf form.  This was a lot of fun to sew up and as you can tell, Patrick is playing the part of Hercules really well!
