The inspiration for this costume was a novelty kit that included a compass, pistol, eye patch, etc. I used Simplicty 2333 and resized down from adult sizes down to fit a child. I used the pattern to make the hat, boot covers, and jabot. I could not find a pattern I liked for the jacket so bought a coat at a second hand store that looked like a naval pea coat and based the jacket pattern on that. I added tails in the front and back and lined them so you would not see hemmed edges when he walked. I used the collar fromt he Simplicity pattern and resized it to fit the jacket so it would look like a Captain’s coat. I added gold edge triim to the front and back panels to highlight the side insert panels. The fabric, trim, and embellishments for the coat all came from my stash so it did not cost much to make. The jabot and shirt was from muslin and trim I had. I died it using tea bags to give an aged look. The hat was from ultra suede apolstery fabric and the boots belt was from vinyl apolstery fabric. I made the pattern for the belt and added loops of elastic for all the accessories. My grandson loved it and I was happy with how everything turned out.
