My two year old consistently desired to be princess Sophia for Halloween so I was thrilled to make this dress. I altered the simplicity 2989 little girls dress pattern for the skirt design as seen in the of the process photo. After creating the shell of the bodice, I fit it to her which is very tricky on an active two year old! I then made the necessary alterations for a good fit. I shortened the sleeves a bit and finished them with a hand sewn blind hem. I made buttonholes down the bodice for closure, and measured out, placed and hand sewed all the bead and ribbon details. The under skirt has a small petticoat I created for a bit of poof and the ribbon was sewn on for detail. It’s lined with all the necessary techniques for a well made dress, lining slightly smaller, under stitched, clipped, trimmed, and well pressed throughout the process. The best part about this, is it cost less then $15 for all the materials. I used a second hand prom dress for all the fabric, ribbon I already had, and only had to buy the beads full price. A huge success and so fun to make!
