These butterfly wings were created for my 3 year old daughter who loves the color pink! She has a newborn sister so we wanted a costume that complimented each other. The new born is a caterpillar who will most likely be wrapped in a cocoon (baby carrier) as we trick or treat.
These wings were created using cardboard, ribbon, fabric, glue, black spray paint,Styrofoam, elastic & 1 large popsicle stick. I first created a template with a large piece of black paper & cut out the wing shape from cardboard (I used a box I got from Amazon). Next I spray painted the wings black & cut four pieces of each wing section I wanted pink or white. I then glued each piece of fabric on the cardboard. Finally I hot glued black ribbon along the outside edge of the wings. I didn’t like how the wings were flat so I cut 2 small triangles from Styrofoam (also from an Amazon package), glued then on the back of the wings & connected the pieces with a popsicle stick. This helped create a 3d look. Last I added elastic loops for her arms to go in. The head piece was made from 2 pipe cleaners & I purchased a black leotard. This beautiful one of a kind Pink Monarch only cost $6! She definitely stood out at her school’s trunk or treat:-)
