Teen Titans Go

My daughter has always enjoyed the comedic side of the superhero world, especially the character “Raven”, from Teen Titans Go!. She identifies with the humor, sarcasm, brains, and love of dance, and wanted to embody that in her costume this year. The cape was made first using ponte knit fabric in the perfect shade for Raven, and again to make the wrist and ankle cuffs. Simplicity #5794 is a good pattern to start with, the XS sizing actually works well for this look. The hood pattern can also be used, but must be altered to add the additional “V” shape in the front that Raven is known for. The Kiwi Sew Pattern K3507 was used to create the body suit with high neck in Black four way stretch fabric. A decorative zipper was sewn in instead of invisible zipper because my daughter wanted to show that Raven was a soft and beautiful girl underneath the cape. The sleeves were altered to add the additional shape and a loop sewn in to be worn around her finger. Glass rocks were painted red and adhered with a 3M adhesive tape to the body suit to represent the belt. The cape was fastened with a hook and eye closure and an additional red stone glued into a wooden ring that was painted gold. Grey 4 way stretch was used to make the legging and purple cuffs using the ponte knit were hand sewn to the body suit wrists and legging ankles. Purple boots were an amazing find at River Island, wig purchased online and shaped by us to represent the v shaped bangs of the character. The ponte knit was the perfect choice for this cape, it had the swing, bounce and over the top attitude this costume required. The 4way stretch too was perfect in matt black, I would add an additional layer at the cuff for structure though ( I did not due to time and it was a bit flimsy), and ideally a grey pair of pantyhose or tights would be fine (and possibly better), but not school friendly like the leggings were. Daughter was thrilled and practicing her powers all night, it was a great costume for a little superpower play.
