I selected Neue Mode 23396, to showcase both the beautiful fabric and my favorite embellishment…Machine Embroidery and Machine Embroidered wool appliques, with wet-felted acorns.
The coat was completely underlined with silk organza, hand quilted (with Pad
Stitching in 1 inch rows), to support the soft faced wool/mohair fabric.
I added hidden front button placket, with machine embroidered buttonholes, as making buttonholes in a hand woven fabric, was not a good option.
Fabrics Used:
Hand woven wool/mohair with black lurex thread, by Linda Kubic of Ritzville, WA.
Silk Organza from Mood Fabrics
‘Concerto’ viscose/acetate lining from Emma One Sock
Premium PRO Weft Fusible Interfacing from Fashion Sewing Supply
Italian Silesia Pocketing “Podestà”, from Bias Bespoke
Embroidery & Sewing Thread from Superior Threads
I began by first practicing with leftover scraps to make a coordinating hat to test
for interfacing “break down”, lining suitability, resolve fraying issues, test stay
tapes and pressing techniques.
I learned so many new and wonderful techniques (both fitting and sewing) to make this coat/jacket, from blogs, Sew-Alongs and video tutorials and Threads Magazine.
