Poison Ivy

I love anything comic book/ super hero related so I decided to choose a villain for the first time. I did a lot searching online to see how she looks in the comic books and then looked at other people’s version of the costume. I noticed that the costumes that were sold online lacked a lot of detail and weren’t that aesthetically pleasing to me. So I decided that I wanted mine to be very detailed, glamorous, playful and even fashionable. I like dramatic costumes and wanted this to have a wow factor.

I got the inspiration for my costume from a costume that I saw on Amazon. I’m a college student and didn’t want to spend $150+ for the costume so I figured out how to make it myself. I typically make my own costumes or order the pieces individually and put them together like an outfit but this was my first time completely making my own costume.

I bought all of the materials from JoAnn’s including the ivy leaves. I also ordered Christmas lights to sew into the costume and add an extra element of glamour to the costume. I spent a month putting the costume together because I don’t know how to properly sew so I took my time and winged it the best I could. The only things I purchased that were already made were a plain bodysuit and the  wig. I hot glued all the leaves onto the bodysuit by hand and I sewed the lights onto the inside of the cape. The cape is constructed of two layers. In between the two layers is where I sewed the Christmas lights which are connected to an on and off switch that I tucked into the back of my bodysuit. I used the leftover leaves to make my headpiece and added flowers as and accent and also a dragon fly for a quirky effect.
