changing pattern sleeves

I have a pattern (Vogue 7141) that has high tight sleeves (“muscle sleeves”). Can they be changed to a more traditional short sleeve?

Rosemary, I don't understand what "muscle sleeves" are. Are they like tight tee-shirt sleeves?

Tight sleeves have high armholes with narrow shoulders. You'll have to make both the sleeve bigger and the armhole lower and probably the shoulder wider (drop the shoulder somewhat), unless I've had too much wine tonight.

I would compare the armhole to a blouse or top that I like. measure the desired armhole and the current. The difference is what you have to work with. Also compare the sleeve shapes. the higher and tighter the sleeve, the higher and pointier the cap.

You might be able to trace the armhole of teh pattern you like to the muscle pattern. Then you can use that sleeve too. You'll have to do a mock-up to be sure.

Sleeves can also be made wider by slashing along the grainline down the center, then about every inch in parallel lines. then spread the pieces apart to desired shape.
