Learning to sew correctly

I’m looking for step-by-step instructions that will force me to use good techniques instead of the adhoc methods I’ve been using for years. I don’t have the patience to follow pattern directions and have developed bad habits. I am accustomed to using a serger and therefore no seam allowances.

This is a site I have referred to many times.

*Vivian, get yourself a good sewing book and read it through. Such as: Readers' Digest book of sewing, Vogue book of sewing (the year 2000 edition is superb), or, less expensive and thorough but widely available: Simplicity Simply the Best Sewing Book.If you do not want to buy new, they are usually available at second-hand bookstores. Any of them is well worth the money.Happy sewing !

*I have recently rediscovered sewing. A helpful website is http://www.sew-whats-new.com is offering step-by-step instructions with a new lesson posted weekly. Good luck. I'm still trying to find a pattern to fit.Susan
