Check out Simplicity patterns (http://www.simplicity.com) for some ideas...under "Costumes" click on both "Adult" and "Period Costumes" as there are some possible offerings in each. I like Simplicity (though they always need some altering for me, but I'm an odd shape), and as one of the "Big Four" they can be found in a lot of fabric stores. You can also order direct from their website.

Thanks, I will check it out. Doc
How "period" are you going? If you are trying for really authentic costumes and sewing techniques, you might want to check out http://www.costumes.org . This is a wonderfully informative site with links to various other pages. If you are just going for the look of the period without all the fuss, then Simplicity # 7274 is great.
Are you sewing for the Union or the Confederacy?

Right now I am just looking for more research area's besides some that
I already have. I am interested in colonial 17th century, frontier, farmers, etc.
