Dowdy duds in new Threads

Rhondasue | Posted in Feedback on Threads on

Maybe I had an off day, but did anyone else think that the most recent issue of threads had the dowdiest garments ever in it? I liked the seam finishing article, but was totally uninspired by the garments featured. Even the new pattern feature(which I usually love) had the strangest fabric choices for the pattern styles.
I will continue buying the magazine, but hope the photography and art direction improve.

I agree, but I since I spent the day shopping with my daughter in mainstream stores for a "young professional" wardrobe, I realize that the Threads garments look like current RTW. I saw only muddy, strange colors, odd rectangular tops and dresses, and enough gathers to make everyone look seven months along.

We found a nicely tailored taupe skirt suit, some subtle knit dresses and tops, but everything else looked horrible! In a way, it made me feel good about some of my homemade disasters.

I always feel much better about my sewing abilities after shopping in retail stores!  Not just because the so called styles seem bizarre at times, but the materials and construction are often so unacceptable too.  What a blessing it is to be able to create for our individual needs and preferences!

I recently found the "perfect" tailored black pantsuit at Marshall's after spending months searching all the malls and higher end dept. stores and boutiques to no avail.

I'll have to make the blouses, as it's impossible to find any that fit my small bone structure because I have a bust.    Mary

Well, as usual we have a wide gamut of opinions! That what I love about the Threads audience---always one to speak up and say what they really think! :-)

As I have in the past, I urge readers who don't find what they need in Threads to step up to the plate and write for us. We are reader-written, and all are welcome to participate. And the best part is, it will be your garments that you created that are featured!

    Which issue?
I subscribed 5/3/2008 and I'm not happy. I got the newest (July # 137) issue maybe in about 2 weeks, that was good. BUT, Soon after that I got
TWO of the previous Magazines, #136, 135!

I have them. I bought them in the store.
My subscription will expire in Jan. 09. 2 Issues short.
I emailed them, but they did not answer.
I hope somebody here from Threads can answer.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me with my subscription and being sent 2 back issues (which, like you, I already had purchased in a store.)  Then I got a reminder that my subscription would soon be up and I should renew already!  I wrote the subscription dept. concerning my displeasure and they changed my subscription renewal date to include two more issues.

This is not a good practice for any magazine to do.  I was appeased by being given the additional issues, but now that I see I'm not the only one to have this occurance, I'm bothered all over again.  I don't like this kind of pushy and sneaky practice.  Pawning off a backlog of old issues as part of someone's brand new subscription is a very sleazy practice.  Not everyone is assertive enough to complain and get it fixed. I like this magazine, but I have no respect for the business practices I'm seeing.

Mind you, it isn't the only place this is done.  I've had "urgent" renewal reminders 6 months into a 1-year subsciption to A.A.R.P., which is a magazine for people over 50.  How many people over 70 do you think would be assertive enough to call them and say "lay off."   I had to do if for my dad (age 80), who was only 6 mos. into a 2-year subs.  The poor man thought it was really time to renew!  You can believe that when he passed on, I called the magazine and had the rest of his subscription refunded. Wonder how many people do that.

Anyhow, if you don't get an answer soon from Threads about your complaint, do contact them again.  They were very quick to respond to my complaint.

About 3 years AFTER our family had changed doctors, I got a bill from our previous family doctor for $50.00.

I thought, perhaps, husband or daughter had visited him for some reason without mentioning it to me.

My first day off work, when I had the time to pay the bills, I asked husband and daughter if they had been to see former doctor, and forgot to tell me.  Both said, "No, I'm happy with the new doctor."

I called old doctor's office to find out what the bill was for........................

The account payable clerk said. "Never mind, we were just cleaning out our files of folks who hadn't been in for a while.  Just disregard the notice"

Always wondered how many busy people just sent them $50.00, because they recieved a statement saying it was owed.  Gail

I called the subscription department to see when I would get the first issue after I subscribed, because I didn't know whether or not to pick up the new issue at the store. She told me which one it would be and then added that the previous 2 had already been mailed. I told her that I already had those and didn't want to pay for duplicates. She was very nice and saw to it that my subscription was extended.

When do Summer Holidays begin in the U.S.? I would imagine during this time there could be reduced staffing levels at CS, leading to slightly longer reply times. Please try again. Many members have emailed and have had quick responses, and are a happy with CS.

      Hello and welcome

I've been a continuous subscriber since 1986, and in ALL that time, only 3 issues didn't arrive. In each case, Customer Service was most courteous and very efficient, replacing the issues immediately. And to their further credit, we are in Europe for extended periods, and then back to USA, and they still keep my issues coming to the right addresses. Cherrypops has given you helpful info; I'm sure all will be well with your subscription.

You'll enjoy it here on Gatherings - good luck.

      Katina
