My 7-year-old and I made some of that embellished fabric together last night. It was not as intimidating to do as I thought it would be. We made a 12″ X 48″ wrap for her to wear as part of a costume for a school assembly. Our embellishments were some ribbon, cut up pieces of an old bathingsuit, a small bag of gold metallic sun-shaped confetti (you can sew right through them), some embroidery cut out of an old t-shirt and a feather. We had a lot of fun decorating it together and it was low stress for a first try at a project like that, because the stakes really weren’t that high.

So cool! I have been wanting to try the embellished fabric method but I haven't been brave enough yet. Do you have any advice??

I'm a novice sewer so I'm racking my brains for advice. But here goes . . .
Do something you don't care about very much to start off with. I thought a lot of the fun of it was just finding old junk and thinking that it might look good sandwiched between two pieces of tulle.
Also, I found that long pieces of ribbon move around a little bit when you move it, so pin down long stuff in a couple of places.
