Furry Fabric

wp | Posted in The Archives on

I have made my daughter a winter coat with fake fur on the cuffs and the standup collar. The pile is about 2cm long.
Can anyone recommend a method of fastening the collar? Would a convetional popper do the trick although I did try an anorak popper unsuccessfully. The collar has two layers of this troublesome fur, and an interfacing sandwich.

Assuming you are talking about fastening the cf edges of the collar to each other, have you tried using a fur hook. You could slit the seam at the cf just enough to bury your fur hook between the seams and hand stitch the seams back together. For the eye, you could either use the eye portion of the hook and eye set similarly buried in the fur or make a thread eye.

*Dear Deborahthankyou for your help. I am going to give your suggestion a go. I did try a loop of elastic and a button but my daughter is struggling to fasten this method and nearly strangles herself trying to undo it!
