I have seen clothing made of hemp fabric and I like it. I would like to find a Canadian supplier for this fabric.Does anyone know of one??Do I have to dye this fabric myself? Has any one experience in sewing with it?

You don't say where in Canada you live. The last time I was in Victoria, B.C. they had a store that sold hemp fabrics and products.

*Hi...Don't know if it will help, but here is the address, (from the back pages of 'Threads")... for a supplier of hemp fabrics, by mail... They send a packet of samples and I really like most of the types available. Had a 'sewing aquaintence' that used to make her own outfits from some of the summer weights and GREAT things of the silk/hemp blends. She dyed her own with 'percion' dyes... and said that they were really easy to dye. She seemed to enjoy it and the garments looked like they had been 'happily done' if that makes any sense at all.. (I've probably spelled half of these words wrong).. Hers were some of the most beautiful things I've ever seen done at home... But her craftsmanship is impecable,also... Anyway here is the address... Don't think it costs anything but I don't remember...You can buy smaller orders or 'wonderful' prices on a whole bolt...If several friends would share...and each dye their own colors...Hemp Traders 2132 Colby Ave #5 Los Angeles, CA 90025310-914-9557 is phone...Perhaps import $$ make it prohibitive but the samples alone are worth the letter...Hope it helps...Janalisza

*Sorry I don't remember either, but the shop was downtown near the harbor in a restored warehouse or factory. If I think of the name, I'll let you know

*I got the sample package from Hemp Traders. I didn't get the impression that they would fulfill small orders, though. Is there a minimum order?

*I have purchased a hemp/silk blend fabric on-line at http://www.dharmatrading.com. They also have other kinds of hemp fabrics and fill small orders. I have been pleased with their service. Their fabrics are all white and natural colored as they are meant for dying.

*The letter that came with my swatches states that there is no minimum order requirement.

*In reply to search for hemp fabrics, I found a wonderful resource at http://www.hempemporium.com. They have a wide variety of amazing hemp and hemp blends. These are first quality designer fabrics - not the usual potato-sack cloth - and only available through these guys. No minimum order, and a variety of weights. I have used the knits and had great success. Most of the fabrics are yarn-dyed, with a great heathered look. Beautiful fabrics - I couldn't believe they were hemp! (And I love hemp!)
