I anm looking for an authentic kimono pattern. Does anyone know of one? I have found several plain kimono patterns but am looking for one with extended sleeves, and instructions for an obi (and how to tie one) as well.
Thanks,
Catherine Slaton

Howdy Catherine! We ran an article called "The Classic Kimono" in Threads Issue 32 (Dec. 1990/Jan. 1991), pp. 39-43. It was a pattern for a kimono with extended sleeves, but no obi :( The author of the article, John Marshall, also wrote a book called "Make Your Own Japanese Clothes" (Kodansha International, 1988). According to a raving review of the book on Amazon.com, it includes obi information. Good luck! **Rita, Gatherings moderator
*and of course, the Folkwear Yukata pattern(Lark Books). But if you want a furisode, Marshall's book is probably the handiest reference.
*hello! I have been asked to make dresses for a competetive ballroom dancer and would welcome any tips on sewing stretch fabrics. I'm a nervous wreck but know that once I've made one I'll probably be Ok.Any suggestions please.
*You should post this as a new discussion item, it might not get answered here with the kimono reponses.
