Need Your Wisdom on Riccar Sewing Mac…

I want to buy my daughter a sewing machine and have only about $200 to spend. I saw a Riccar 950 3/4 size head (photo attached) which would be great for my gypsy girl who travels extensively but needs to bring along a machine for stitching simple costumes. However, she’s easily frustrated by touchy machines. Does anyone have any experience with this model or Riccar in general? I’d like her to have a solid little workhorse that would do a few stretch stitches, etc so that she can sew lycras, faux fur, velvets and costumey fabrics. Your feedback would be appreciated.

    Susan,
the older generation of Riccars were excellent, excellent machines. I owned 2. I do not know the machine you pictured, it seems entirely new. Also please bear in mind that the Company who used to produce Riccar machines no longer does so. I do not know who now owns or uses the Rights. Maybe a Bernina 807/817 or 900 Nova would be a better alternative. Maybe you can get them used, they are also featured on ebay sometimes.
