Hello everyone:
I am designing a blue jean jacket using the flat pattern design method. The style is one where there are two seams running up from the bottom of the jacket to the bottom of the front yoke. A pocket is positioned over those two seams. The two seams are about 6 cm apart at the bottom and end at either edge of the flap of the pocket. I have not done much designing and am having a problem trying to figure out how these two seams are arrived at. I have a couple of good flat pattern design books, such as “Designing Apparel Through the Flat Pattern” by Kopp, Rolfo, Zelin & Gross and the other book is entitled “Patternmaking for Fashion Design” by Helen Joseph Armstrong. Neither of these books gives instructions for a garment with these two seams.
Could anyone explain how to arrive at these two seams, or, failing that, refer me to a book which would explain this method.
Thanks for your help.
Gladys

I'm not sure how fitted you want it, but could you not take a front bodice with a yoke, then take the bottom below the yoke and fold out the dart and divide this in half for the two bottom pieces? Then add the seam allowances. You could also look at a RTW jacket in a store or a pic from e-bay to look at the proportion of the two bottom sections.
Hi, Susan:
Thanks for the reply. I will try this tomorrow.
