Personal Fit Pattern

tmorris1 | Posted in Feedback on Threads on

Many moons ago, the Vogue pattern company released a pattern that was designed to help people achieve the perfect fit in their garments. The pattern was to be constructed out of a small check gingham fabric which allowed you to see very easily what the source of fitting problems were (if the checks were distorted then the pattern needed adjusting)

Included with the pattern were all of the instructions required to re-fit the garment properly, as well as illustrations to help. The goal of this pattern was not to finally achieve a wearable garment, but a reference that one could use to quickly adjust future garments. Ie: compare shoulder slope, armhole shape, dart placing and length etc…

My question is this…do you think that threads could develop a similar pattern, and are any of the discussion participants who would find this method useful?

It's still in the back of the Vogue pattern books.  It's like a sloper.

Is it really??? Well that shows you what I know. This is the pattern that our grade 10 home economics class made, and I have never really had fitting or alteration problems since. There are so many questions about alteration out there, and books pouring out from everywhere. If this pattern is still available (I have searched it on google and didn't find it) then why is it not more popular? Perhaps it is just that few people know of the pattern? Maybe the Threads Pattern line could still publish a variation on the subject.
