Wanted this to be a separate topic, but I was reminded of it due the other scarves request: Wouldn’t it be fun to see a Threads article on making clothing with scarves? If it’s already done, oops, can someone refer me to it? If not, these are acouple of things I’ve seen recently that started the wheels turning.
Found a street fair in NYC last summer where a Russian woman was selling some great tops, convertible, that you could wear 3-4 ways, made from large (maybe 36″ -45″) lightweight cotton scarves. They were so lovely and airy. Wish now that I’had bought one to study and make more. She said you could wear them as a top or dress.
Recently attended a fashion show and saw a lovely empire-waist, spaghetti-strapped halter summer silk dress where the skirt was made of 3 large scarves turned on point and attached at the waist. Gorgeouse white silk background with a black and yellow-gold floral border accentuating the handkerchief hem. Price tag was a couple of hundred dollars and I was thinking these would have been easy to find in NYC for maybe $5 per scarf.
Anyway, great inspiration…

Ooooeooh yes, I would love such an article! The closest I have seen is the article in Threads about Kayla Kennington, she has a website that you might find interesting, http://www.kaylakennington.com I think there are still some messages in the archives related to modular clothing, maybe under creative sewing...can't remember. Several people sent in photos. Still nothing like you were describing, that would be truly awsome!
Look under "archives" "photos" vests challenge to see some modular vests that could be made from scarves too. Mary
