Slinky Knit…washable?

Marlene_Kay_Dopp | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

I was under the impression “slinky Knit’s were washable. The one I purchased is acetate with some lycra. What has been others experience with this type? I would like to be able to wash and dry it. If I test a small piece can I trust washing the whole 3 yards?

Slinky's washable (yes, even though it contains acetate, this is a new generation acetate) I wash it normally, no special cycles. I do hang it to dry, instead of putting it in the dryer, being careful to hang it so it doesn't stretch. Currently, I am wearing a skirt of slinky that I made in September. This skirt has been washed weekly since it was made, as it is so comfortable and flattering to wear that I wear it constantly.

*Two questions: is there just one kind of slinky knit? And, has anybody tried drying it in the dryer?

*Actually, I have other questions, also. When you make a skirt out of it, how much ease in the hips do you allow, and do you make just a rectanble with an elastic waist?

*4" of ease at the hip line is great for a "rectangle" skirt with an elastic waistband/casing. I just took a class on sewing slinky last weekend!
