I’m looking for chamois cloth, the heavy cotton flannel used for cold-weather shirts, such as L.L. Bean’s. But I want the cloth to make my own shirts. Does anyone know of any good sources? Google provides links for synthetic chamois (shammy) cloth, or lightweight flannel such as for sleepwear, neither of which is not what I want.

Try denver fabrics--I did find 58-60" flannel for shirts although it doesn't say it's chamois or heavy weight. All the chamois I've seen was 60" and the heavy weight flannels are 60" with the thinner flannels 45 or so. Maybe we just know it as an outdated name. Denver does offer samples but they are slow about sending them. Perhaps you can get info by email to them.
