We need to know how to make a Spanish mantilla for a costume, not just the lace draped over the face kind but with the high fan type arrangement sitting on the head and none of us can even imagine what one looks like. Any ideas on how they are constructed? and what they are made out of. Thanks.

*There is an extensive discussion of this subject, including some pictures, at http://www.users.cts.com/crash/j/jgibson/knitting/replies.htm. The fan is just a plastic comb that is fastened into the woman's hair. Also, I saw mantillas and hair forks (combs) for sale at http://www.nightmarefactory.com/accessories.html#headware, which is an on-line costume shop. I have never ordered anything from them, so I can't vouch for them. Hope this answer is not too late.
