I want to make sun protective clothing for my small grandchildren. I’m looking for sources of fabrics such as Sunveil or Solarweave, but not having much luck. Does anyone know of sources – Canada preferred, but USA too?

Hello,
There are laundry treatments that you add to the wash cycle and that strongly boost the UPF of the fabric/clothes. You can sometimes find them next to fabric dyes.

make sure they are safe for babies though, I have read that the fabric that come with bug protection embedded in the fibers - you can absorb the insectacide into your skin when the fabric gets wet - hot/sweaty outdoors where these bugs are.ANY opaque fabric covering the skin will protect it from the sun. try not to add additional chemicals to a tiny babies tender system

Hello Judy,
I totally agree that it's best to avoid putting babies in contact with chemicals. Now, regarding the ability of fabrics to protect the skin from the sun, don't overestimate it. I read that the UPF of a typical white T-shirt is only 5. But no need to worry about this or about chemicals if you follow pediatrists' advice: no sun for babies.
