I have heard that fresh vegetables stay fresher longer if they are kept in a cloth bag. This source went on to say that “Hock Cloth” was a good material to use to make these bags. They suggested giving them as gifts and to use your embroidery machine to decorate each bag. Has anyone used this type of bag to store veggies? Has anyone made them? Does anyone know where to purchase “Hock Cloth” or have an idea for any other suitable fabrics?

Kathleen, I was given a veggie bag and tried it for a while. I didn't notice any difference, but the bag was a good size and it eventually found a second life as a shoe bag.
*Is it possible that you are looking for HUCK toweling? That would be available from places selling embroidery fabrics - also some larger fabric stores may carry it. It is used in Swedish embroidery - a technique that weaves threads through the threads of the fabric in a design. Have you tried the vegetable bags available in the grocery store - plastic bag section - they work great. Also, tupperware is fantastic for storing vegetables - they have a lettuce keeper and a celery keeper and they just have to be washed out in the sink. Mine are going strong after 25 years!
*Thank you for your comments regarding the veggie bags. Maybe it was "Huck" toweling. I will save the sewing time and use the suggestions you both gave.
