veil fabric

A bride-to-be has asked me to sew a veil for her wedding but she does not want the traditional nylon tulle look. She showed me a picture of what she wants – the veil looks very soft and somewhat retro with a romantic English garden feeling. Any suggestions for possible fabrics for her veil?

    Dear Sheila,

How about using lace for the veil? Or how about silk chiffon with a hand rolled hem ? Both would be really pretty.

When my daughter was five and serious about dress up she used a length of lace as a veil. It looked great. It evoked the mood you are talking about. ( It looked so good that i knew I had to file the idea for future use)

*How about English netting? Drapes beautifully - not the fluffy volume of traditional illusion. Available in poly or cotton. Poly a bit softer but cotton is authentic and will soften if washed. Looks lovely with lace appliques or thread tracery.
