After much searching on the internet for candlewicking design, our classroom decided to venture into our own designs. We have a book full of templates that we use for plastic canvas projects.
One of these is a picture of ganders, which is our school mascot. We decided to try our hand at designing our own pattern!
We placed a piece of paper over the picture of the gander and created the template to be candlewicked.
Then, make the embroidered stitches with a piece of batting behind it to give it a little texture. We used six strands of embroidered floss on these pieces of pink seersucker fabric.
Used a basic french knot method. I love them, they look like little roses!
To complete their project, they simply sewed a fabric back and made another top stitch further in about 1 inch into the project to 'frame' it out. We also placed a couple pieces of ribbon in the seamline at the top to use as a 'hanger'.
Finished project!
