Scary Spider Queen

This costume took about 5 hours to apply. I think I should win because this is an original costume concept that took a lot of time to make. I feel the spirit of Halloween is the fright of this holiday and my costume is definitely scary and unique!

How I made the face: First I put on a bald cap and painted it white with grease paint and setting powder. I used a glue stick, powder, and white grease paint to cover my eyebrows and put in black sclera contact lenses. I layered cotton balls around my nose and mouth to form the shape of the monster mouth and covered that with masking tape. For the teeth, I took acrylic fingernails and cut them into points then coated them in liquid latex and grease paint. I used cotton balls soaked in latex to apply them to the masking tape mouth. Then covered the tops of them with napkins and liquid latex. I painted where my actual mouth is with black grease paint and the monster mouth with red and white grease paint. I used baby powder to set the paint so it was dry. I added the additional spider eyes by gluing teddy bear eyes to my forehead with liquid latex. I used red and black grease paint to paint around the teddy bear eyes and my actual eyes, as well as around the monster mouth. I also painted any exposed skin, like my shoulders, back, and arms with white grease paint and set it with baby powder.

The body: I purchased a ball gown and faux fur shawl for the outfit along with long fingered gloves. I used a plastic decorative spider that I purchased from Home Depot for the legs and crown. I used a hand saw to separate the body of the plastic spider from the legs. I attached the spider legs to a set of backpack straps and wore them as a backpack. I stuffed black padding into the body of the plastic spider and wore it as a crown.

Eggsac: I created spider eggs by stuffing plastic Christmas baubles with fake spider webbing, fake spiders, and battery powered tea lights. I coated them in liquid latex and painted them in grease paint. I carried them in a net bag and handed them to people as a creepy gift.

This costume was very fun to make! For special effects techniques, I am very inspired by youtuber Ellimacs SFX.
