The Empress of Dragons

This was was worn at Dragoncon 2019

The costume took about 2 months to create. The Green wig I ordered from Amazon and dyed it using Rit Dye more in Emerald Green to darken it. I created the Dragon Headdress using a pattern from this site : http://bonggamom.blogspot.com/2014/10/how-to-make-chinese-dragon-mask-for.html?m=1 I enlarged it, traced it onto craft foam, and Vinyl Place mats. I assembled it and added my own details to it. The pearl sphere inside is the Golden pearl that the Dragon is seen chasing. It was created using a Plastic Christmas ornament I spray painted Gold. I purchased the Horns from Costume Etc. in Atlanta and sewed them onto the wig. The hairpieces I created gluing Hair clips to them. They are really brooches.

For the Garment I used 3 patterns: Mcalls 4378 for the White Under dress, Mcalls  7218 for the Train, Mcalls 6940 for the over coat. The Belt was hand drafted.  The collar is a Faux Fur stole I bought at a Yard sale. The drape was a picture of a Dragon I traced, Hand painted, then applied the sequins and Gems with E6000. The outer belt is Plastic Coconut shells I purchased at Dollar tree, applied Rub and Buff in Grecian Gold and hand sewed them to the Red belt so I can tie it to the black belt.
The train: I used  stencils of Crane Birds, traced them, hand painted, and filled in with Gems and flat back pearls. The rest of the train was hand painted free hand by me. I trimmed the train with a huge hand made pipping using cording and attaching it for adding weight.

The shoulder armor is Gold Place mats from Walmart. I like the design of them and knew they had potential. The prop piece I bought from the Goodwill, purchased a wooden egg from Hobby Lobby and painted it Gold to represent the Phoneix Egg. The chain is created out of  Binder clips.
