It appears that an embroidery thread company from China has access to my private email address – and no doubt everyone’s email address – and is able to bother me with blatant advertising. There is not a way to report this. Most forums have a spot for reporting abuses such as this.

Do you think it came from this site? I have not had such an experience.
Can't you block certain addresses from your email account?
Never post your email address on an open forum.
That email obviously came to me by way of my profile on this site. I of course don't post my email address on any forum and there is no way to block any stranger using my profile. This particular sender apparently had to become a member of the forum to access our profiles. I think I am going to give up on Gatherings, it has become too unwieldy and frankly, uninteresting.
I received the same solicitation this morning, but as a "Private Message at Gatherings". They didn't seem to have my personal email ...
Still ~ Yeah! I didn't report it because there was no "apparent" way ...
Here's the body of the actual email I got:
Hi KharminJ,
This is an automatic reminder from the site Gatherings. You have received a new private message from Ceduct.
To read your message, follow this link:
http://forums.threadsmagazine.com/messages/view/xxx
If you don't want to receive these emails again, change your preferences here:
http://forums.threadsmagazine.com/user/xxxxxx/edit
Hmmmmm?
Kharmin
I also received the exact same email solicitation from Ceduct as a "Private Message at Gatherings " This sales technique will make me unlikely to participate in Gatherings in the future
The sender of that email had to become a member of the forum to access our profiles. I, like you, am out.
Please, Please! My friends ~ don't write off Gatherings just because someone abused their membership privileges!
Remember, there are no 'qualifiers' to join the group, so no way to filter out commercials in advance.
Click on "Ignore this user" and you shouldn't get any more messages from them.
Go to their website, if you'd like, and let them know that you don't appreciate this style of advertising.
But "Ceduct" undoubtedly did everything correctly to join, and then took gross advantage of his membership. They hove NO CONNECTION to Taunton's or Threads at all.
Bright Blessings!
Kharmin
I also received the same message as you did, Kharmin, but there was no message or advertisement, when I tried to view the message. It must have been deleted, so I assumed that Ceduct had notified the wrong person. I also deleted the message.

I too received this message and when I clicked on the connection it didn't connect. However when I Logged On to the forum there was a private message waiting for me and when I opened it there was the message from 'China' for the thread.
When the screen having Recent Topics opens on my screen there's an in red Report Violations hyperlink to the far right. Just under the post. Part of the bytes get "lost" in some others in that same direction. Might this be on yours as well? I'm guessing all the hyperlinks in the line are what was once known to us as Options.

starzoe, when I click on your name to see your profile, your email address doesn't appear - I'm pretty sure only you can see it. What this advertiser must've done is leave a message to you in your "inbox" here on the forum. Clearly that's a breach of the forum rules, and should be reported; please do that. There's a "Report Violation" link which appears on the Reply page, at the bottom of the message being replied to. Note that, except for the first message in a string, that "Report Violation" option does not appear below the messages in the strings, only on the Reply page, after you click on "Reply". I'm not sure how you will report this infringement, since it isn't a message posted generally, but is directly to you. Perhaps you can report it by clicking to reply on my message.
I did not receive the ad that you did. I wonder if it's just random, or if someone is individually picking frequent users of the forum. I understand your consternation and reluctance to use the forum, but I would miss your contributions here.
Joan
I didn't get the message on
I didn't get the message on my inbox here on the forum, it came to the email I used when I joined the forum so I am assuming it came through the "send this user a message" through my profile.
I have reported this to our tech department. I'm not sure what this is about, but I'm looking into it.
Thanks Vicky, I did get a notice by e-mail on my e-mail associated with this forum and then it was here on my messages. Hope you can figure it out.
Oh, I guess I misread what you said. I thought you got notice by email but that the message itself was here on the forum. Sorry. It appears though, that the forum administrators have been paying attention. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that this gets cleared up fast. Joan.
