Buying my 1st Sewing Machine
Hello! I’m buying my first machine and wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I want something that is easy to use and has potential for making more complicated projects once I get some experience under my belt. I’ve been looking at a Viking Emerald 116. Does anyone have opinions about this machine?

Hi there,
Welcome! How exciting that you're shopping for a machine!
I don't know the Viking you mention, but I have an idea. You might get some answers faster by taking a look at http://www.patternreview.com - on their home page you'll see a link that will take you to hundreds of sewing machine reviews, all sorted by make and model. You can read several people's reviews of the same machine, and also can compare notes on different models. Endless fun, and very educational.
I wish you happy shopping and very happy sewing!
:) Mary
Good equiptment makes a hobby more of a pleasure. My machine is an old Viking, reliable, simple to repair, most of all it works without complaining. So my advice is to look for a machine that will work day in and day out. Salespeople and ads may stress "features", but what joy is a hobby with equiptment that can't be depended on. Yes, I've had unreliable machines. No more. Sorry, I can't help you with advice on the Emerald. Elizabeth
