chest piece

I am making a man’s tailored jacket in wool fabric from a period 1830’s pattern. I am considering including a chest piece to support the front area of the garment. I would very much appreciate reference to complete instructions for installing a chest piece. Thank you very much.

Classic Tailoring Techniques : A Construction Guide for Men's Wear (F.I.T. Collection) by Roberto Cabrera and Patricia Flaherty Meyers gives a detailed description of how to construct a chestpiece (sometimes called a plastron). It is still a standard technique and you can probably find descriptions in any good book on traditional tailoring.

    Happy tailoring,

    Ghillie
