    Elna Lock

Your serger has several throat plates, some wideer than others and 2 different needles--a single needle and a double needle (on one shaft).  It sounds like the needle is hitting the throat plate and breaking off.  You need to get a reproduced manual so you can learn how to use the serger and you'll need to order the double needle.  Elna dealers are hard to find here so you'll probably have to go to ebay to find those things.  I have that serger and it has wonderful possiblilities if you can learn to use it!
