and here is a blue one- each is hand dyed and hand felted wool with hand dyed locks and hand beading inside.
These look lovely - beautiful colours - and as if they were fun to make - but what are 'geodes'?? This is a new word in my vocab!
a geode is a rock that when split open reveals an orbit of crystals. from the outside they are drab lumps and inside is a secret... hence my felted/beaded version.
I am exploring felt as a medium. and this week I started a weaving class.
I love these. Your secret treasures are so cool. Are they fastened to the wool or is this a receptacle of some sort? What is the size? Thanks. solo
these fit in one hand. I am working on making then about 6-8 inches diameter and finding a way to install a light inside them. I think as a grouping they would be quite nice. Thanks.
If you made them smaller, you could attach some sort of pin to the back and use them as decorative lapel pins or decorate a felt beret with them.
if they were smaller i couldn't fill them with the beads. for lapel decorations I use felted flowers or small medallions that are flat and beaded extensively. I also make small pins with punch needle ( igolochkoy) silk thread on silk noile. Plus the drab outer part is shellaced witha mixture of floor polish and white glue to make it feel like a geode when you pick it up. rough and crusty.
but they would make excellent tree ornaments so I am making a whole bunch to send to friends.

That's what I thought they were from the pictures. My mistake. But we are thinking along the same lines. They are very pretty.
